FMF: Here

Dearest Bloggs,

Time for Five Minute Friday. I am linking up with Lisa Jo Baker. Today our word is Here.

Go!

I could respond to this word in one sentence: I need to be more HERE. Ouch. How does Lisa Jo Baker always know what word is on my heart???

It's true. I am never HERE. I am never in the moment. Brutally honest? I think most of my HERE moments suck. Perhaps it is not what I wanted. It didn't meet my expectations. I am bored. I am frustrated. I want More. And so to keep myself from dwelling HERE, to escape my bad temper and lack of patience, I escape to ANYWHERE.

Mostly ANYWHERE includes Facebook, Twitter, blogging, and man oh man: Pinterest. I don't like HERE so I escape to ANYWHERE; I check out. See ya Real World.

But...

But in the same process, I am checking out on my Baby's life! I am missing moments. I am missing smiles. I am missing giggles.

True, it is one of the biggest kept mommy secrets that babies are boring. But when I pick up my phone as soon as I pick up that bottle every. single. time. even I know that I am missing out on the HERE.

God wants me HERE. That is why He gifted me this moment, this very HERE I am trying to escape. Who do I think I am to say "Nope. This HERE isn't good enough for me. I am off for a better ANYWHERE"??

Again, no promises that I won't escape ANYWHERE ever again, but I am going to try to be more HERE. To start?? Logging off...........bye Bloggers!!

STOP!!

  1. I am so guilty of this myself! Thanks for saying it out loud. I want my kids to have my undivided attention when they need it, and so often my actions tell them my priorities are elsewhere. This is a great reminder to tune into my life.

    1. I think it is a sign of the times, always having to do several things at once. Let's see if we can stop it with us!

  3. Thanks for being so honest! To be fully here, it can be so hard. In "A Thousand Gifts" by Ann Voskamp she challenges us to live fully in the moment...and to see the gifts in the moment. I am constantly working on this myself!

Hope you saw the beauty in the HERE of your life today! Remember these days with your little on are the days you will dream about someday. :)

    1. I am just finishing up that book right now! I feel as if I must be the last person on the planet to read it. I have barely started my Gifts Journal but am so glad I have at least started!
      Thanks for stopping by!

  5. This is me too and I hate it!! Leaves me with a constant sense of guilt that I am missing out on the moments with little ones all the time :( but when my littlest has such a strong will and likes to show it most of the time(!) I look for an outlet online. Yesterday I deactivated my FB account. More to do with my heart towrads others than family time but your post will spur me on to make that a catalyst for trying to be HERE for them starting today.
Thanks for the encouragement (that I'm not alone) and the challenge to be in the HERE :)
    Kate.
